However if youre not familiar with emacs it could have a steep learning curve. Best Latex Editor Reddit Full Of FeaturesContinue this thread level 2 1 point 4 years ago Is Emacs lightweight I know it is full of features but will it run on my 5 years old laptop At the moment im using gedit with custom snippets but i could eventually upgrade to something with more features since ill have to write alot of papers this summer. And then install spacemacs and add latex to the layer section of your.spacemacs file. I use vim, but like LaTeX itself, vim has a pretty steep learning curve. I would not recommend learning it (yet) if youre planning to start writing immediately, because it would hinder your thesis progress, but if youve still got a few months before writing, you might want to check out vim and play around with it. ![]() Integration of bibtex and handing of multiple files are stellar. I used to use TexShop, which is also very nice, but doesnt do as good a job at automating the handling of multiple files. ![]() You can spend a life long finding your ultimate Emacs or Vim workflow, or you can just get an editor that works pretty much out of the box. Costs money mind. I currently use Sublime Text 3 LaTeXTools (a plugin for it). It is aware of bibtex and you can search through references when including citations and can search through the document when you are referring to things like figures, tables, equations, chapters, etc. The preview-mode which renders things like equations, headings, and figures in-line is just icing on the cake. I cannot vouch for vim (as it is an abomination), but know many people who would shout in the street about its greatness. I am jealous that vi is literally on every machine I have ever used (except for windows) whereas emacs is a bit more bloated. That being said, if you dont want to spend several months learning a text editor (its worth it though), then the linga franca LaTeX editor for mac is TeXShop. It doesnt have too many bells and whistles, but it gets the job done well. Its handy for things like single equations in presentations or other word documents. Tex up an equation, and drag drop the pdf to wherever you want. And then, drag and drop back into LaTeXit to get your latex source back.) level 1 2 points 4 years ago I use Textmate for pretty much all of my text editing on my Mac, in any language. Best Latex Editor Reddit Code Folding AndIts pretty good with highlighting and code folding and autocomplete macros, etc. It works on all three platforms.
